The sports

Three ways to get on the water.

Clase de wakeboard en Barcelona con La Ketch AcademyFrom age 12

Wakeboard

Holding a rope, the boat pulls you and you keep your balance on the board. It’s the easiest of the three to start with, because the board is big and floats. The first attempts end in the water. Once you get it, you’re hooked.

Standing up: 15–20 min
Time on the water: 30 min
2 to 6 people, taking turns
From age 12
Some arm strength

Water skiing

Two skis on your feet, the rope in your hands and the boat speeding up. It’s more technical than wakeboarding because each foot goes its own way, but the feeling of speed is greater. The all-time classic.

Standing up: 15–25 min
Time on the water: 30 min
2 to 6 people, taking turns

A bit more demanding

Foil

A board with a wing under the water that lifts it and makes it fly above the surface. It’s the strangest and most fun thing to try: no noise, no waves, just the feeling of floating. You come here to have a good time, not to compete.

More fun than technique

Alex

La Ketch Academy instructor

He’s been doing water sports since he was very young, and teaching them almost as long. He’s one of those instructors who sees exactly where you’re stuck and explains it another way until it clicks.

Friendly, patient and attentive to every detail. He doesn’t mind repeating the same thing ten times if needed. If something goes wrong in the water, he’s there before you notice. If something goes right, he’s the first to celebrate.

Speaks Spanish, English and French.
How it works

A lesson, step by step.

01Before the water

Alex explains the technique on land: how to hold the rope, how to position yourself, what will happen.

02First attempts

You get in the water. If you fall, and you will, he helps you up, you breathe and try again.

03The moment

Suddenly it works. Those ten seconds standing up when you understand why people get hooked.

04More attempts

Now you know you can, you last a little longer each time.

05End of session

You come out tired, wet and wanting to come back.

It helps, but it isn't essential: everyone wears a life jacket. If you can't swim, tell us beforehand and Alex will adapt the lesson.
